Title of course: 7-Hour Periodic Gas Piping Inspector Qualification

Course Description: To perform periodic inspections of gas piping systems under the direct and continuing supervision of a licensed master plumber, as covered in Article 318 of title 28 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, the applicant must have at least five years of full-time experience working under the direct and continuing supervision of a licensed master plumber. In addition, the applicant must satisfy the qualification requirement by completing this training program as mandated by the rules of the Department and submit a Certificate of Completion to the Licensing & Exams Unit for 7 hours of training.

Topics include but not limited to:

• NYC Department of Buildings Overview - cover all applicable Administrative standard operating procedures, Policy & Procedure Notices, Department notifications, forms, and inspection checklists
• Regulations on Piping Safety
• Properties of Natural Gas
• Combustible Gas Detectors and Leak Detection
• Atmospheric Corrosion Inspection
• Interior Piping Leak Survey
• Hands-on Gas Indicator Instruction
• Jurisdictional/Non-jurisdictional Piping Connections
• Purging Gas Piping Into/Out of Service
• Recognizing Illegal Connections and Substandard Conditions
• Reporting and Documenting Inspections
• Atmospheric Corrosion and Leak Survey Inspection Procedure

Pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites for the course. Students must speak the language in which the course is given.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:

• Recognize Illegal Connections and Substandard Conditions.
• recognize the Properties of Natural Gas.
• become aware of how to report and Document Inspections.

Course Duration: 7 Hours of training (not including class breaks)

Course and attendance Policy: Students must earn a 70% or more in their final exam in order to successfully complete the training. Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities.
